2017 college football year in review

Football player yelling with his hands raised.

The confetti has fallen, the trophy handed out and now Alabama is champion once again. But now that it’s all over, let’s take a look back and even a look forward to this upcoming 2018 season.

Florida St. and Florida had one of their worst seasons in recent memory, while Miami and UCF had a resurgence into the the national spotlight. Speaking of UCF, they made the case this season as to why there should be an 8 team playoff rather than 4 after beating Auburn in the Peach bowl and going undefeated. There are those who even believe the Golden Knights are the true champs this season.

The Lane Train became a thing this past year as Lane Kiffin led FAU to their best season in school history along with a conference title and a win in the Boca Bowl. Baker Mayfield scored a bunch of points with Oklahoma and won the Heisman. And you can’t mention or even think of the 2017 college football season without talking about the turnover chain! That now iconic piece of jewelry took on a life of its own this past year and will be returning for the 2018 season.

Speaking of which, 2018 will bring it’s share of storylines and surprises. Will the Canes be able to build off of the year they just had? Will we see Alabama and Georgia again in the playoff, or will some of the other teams that got left out be able to fight their way in?

Another great season of college football is in the books. Now we just have to wait another 8 months for it to come back.
