The New York Jets have announced that QB Josh McCown will be out for the season after fracturing his hand Sunday night in Denver.

The announcement was made Monday following a second opinion that confirmed the 38-year-old would need surgery.

McCown was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s game when he was tackled by Shane Ray while releasing a pass.

“I knew when it happened something wasn’t right,” McCown said in an emotional news conference after the game.

Backup QB Bryce Petty play against the New Orleans Saints Sunday.  Christian Hackenberg, who has yet play since getting drafted in the second round two years ago, will be moved to backup.
