It was a very emotional night for Martin Truex Jr. as he finally won his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title after a decade-long career in NASCAR’s top division. Truex was able to hold off Kyle Busch in a fierce battle to the finish, grabbing his 8th win of the season in Sunday night’s Ford Ecoboost 400. Truex, as well as his entire team at Furniture Row Racing, have faced major adversity during the 2017 season both professionally and personally. Aside from being located way outside of the Mecca of NASCAR in Charlotte, NC, The Denver based team’s owner Barney Visser recently suffered a heart attack and was unable to attend tonight’s championship race. The team also tragically lost one of their crew members in the recent months and Martin Truex Jr’s longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex has had multiple bouts with cancer. The remaining 3 championship contenders finished with Kyle Busch in 2nd, Kevin Harvick in 4th, and Brad Keselowski in 7th position.
