The real reasons why Josh McDaniels stayed with the Patriots

Josh McDaniels shocked the world last night when he decided to spurn the Colts and stay with the Patriots. Even though his agent was reportedly telling him he was making a huge mistake. So that left the rest of us shaking our heads in surprise trying to figure out what caused this sudden turnaround.

There are plenty of theories as to why he made the sudden change. Could it be that he is next in line to take over the helm of the Patriots? Is that what they told him? Belichick has said that he is coming back to coach next year, so if that does happen, it won’t be right away. But let’s face it, this looks pretty similar to when Belichick was waiting in the wings behind Parcells.

On the outside looking in, that seems like the meat of the reason as to why McDaniels decided to stay with the Pats at the last second. It is being said though, that Kraft made him a very aggressive offer to stick around too. More money always helps the situation.

Could it also be that familiarity played a huge part in this? Not only for McDaniels when it comes to the familiarity of a system and an organization, but also the familiarity of a city and its surroundings. McDaniels has 4 kids, don’t think that family aspect wasn’t considered here.

Is it also possible that McDaniels was turned off by Indy? I mean let’s face it, Jim Irsay is kind of a crazy person and he spearheaded the Deflategate conspiracy. And we still don’t know how Andrew Luck is recovering from his injury. Maybe that spooked him too.

For now, though, things remain the same. McDaniels is still the OC in New England and Belichick is still the head coach. For now.
