UM’s DB’s Continue to Impress, And Now Get Stronger

Coming into this season, the Miami Hurricanes front 7 were considered to be one of the top squads in the nation, and they have lived up to the hype. But it wasn’t until recently that the defensive backs have started to gain some national attention.

Former national champion, and current DB’s coach, Mike Rumph, continues to be impressed by the young squad. He talks about the undersized 5’9″ sophomore with a big heart, Malek Young. Young has not only become known for his shut down corner abilities, but also his strange pregame vomit ritual. But hey, whatever works right?

Then there’s freshman,┬áTrajan Bandy, whom Rumph calls a “throwback” to the old canes days. A smash mouth type of player. Junior Michael Jackson, or as he has become known in recent weeks, “Mr. Turnover Chain” leads the team with 3 interceptions.

And now finally, the Canes will be getting their leader back this week after a 2 week absence from a knee injury. Dee Delaney will take the field vs the Tar Heels this Saturday afternoon to bolster an already formidable squad that is now ranked 28th out of 127 teams in the FBS.

All in all, the part of the defense that was a question mark to start out the season, has now become one of it’s strengths. And has a chance to show off against one of the worst teams statistically wise in┬áNorth Carolina (1-7, 0-5). We’ll see who earns the now legendary turnover chain next.
