Yankees Split Doubleheader with Orioles

The 1st game of the doubleheader was supposed to be a win for New York but that did not work out. The Yankees had Brandon Drury playing third base, Tyler Wade at second base, Clint Frazier in left field and Kyle Higashioka catching against the Baltimore Orioles. If you are reading this right now, it is not the Triple A team playing against the Orioles but they almost won. CC Sabathia started the game but it was not enough after they blew a 3-run lead to absorb a 5-4 loss to Baltimore in the 1st game. Sabathia allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 5-plus innings of work.

Game 2 was a different story as the heartbeat of the Yankees gave them an extra boost as “Gardy Goes Yardy” twice against the Orioles. The hero was Brett Gardner who had 4 hits and 3 RBIs. Also, he showed some leather by taking away a home run with a leaping catch. New York rebounded with a 10-2 victory in 2nd game of the doubleheader. Surprisingly, Austin Romine had that power surge too with 2 home runs of his own. Luis Cessa was terrific! He pitched 6 scoreless innings giving up 3 hits with 3 walks and 4 K’s.
