Dwayne and wife Gabrielle Union announced on Twitter that they would be starting a movement of their own. Getting NBA players and executives to donate their own money to the March For Our Lives event scheduled in Washington DC on March 24th.

Wade came out on Twitter and said he was getting the movement started by donating $200,000 of his and Union’s own money to the fund that will support the march. He stated that he would be donating on behalf of the city of Chicago so local students there could attend the march or hold their own local marches.

One of Wade’s close friends and fellow NBA star, Carmelo Anthony, will also be donating to the fund. Their goal is to get as many underprivileged children who may not otherwise be able to afford the trip to DC, the necessary funds to achieve that purpose and march with their fellow students. A portion of that money is also going to the general go fund me account for the families of the victims.

Wade has been a very vocal advocate for the students of Douglas ever since he heard the story of Joaquin Oliver being buried in his jersey. He dedicated the rest of this season to the memory of Oliver and even showed up at the school last week to surprise the students. He was also seen over the weekend helping to dedicate a new art memorial for Oliver and the victims.

Quite frankly, D Wade has been a Godsend for these kids and their cause ever since coming back to Miami.
