The air surrounding Howard Schnellenberger field felt mystic; like greatness had just been witnessed by all those who sat in the stands, glued to the game. It’s only Week 3 of the college football season but two FAU football school records have been shattered by the young Owl offense.
Devin “Motor” Singletary showed the world just why he’s on that famous “Heisman In Paradise” billboard that undoubtedly catches the attention of those pushing the pavement on I-95. Motor rushed for a record breaking four touchdowns in the first quarter- making him only the second player to ever do so in Conference USA history. The Owls put up a score of 29-0 against Bethune Cookman before the first fifteen minutes even expired.
By the second quarter, Motor solidified his name in FAU history by scoring yet another six points, breaking the record for rushing touchdowns in a single game by any FAU player. Combined with passing help from newbie quarterback Chris Robinson and a rushing touchdown from backup De’Andre Johnson, FAU would go on to overtake the Wildcats 49-28.
Robinson, coming off of an impressive win against Air Force last week, struggled with two interceptions to the Wildcats. However, Robinson’s name will also forever remain in the FAU record books. He threw for 471 yards and three touchdowns in the 33-27 victory over Air Force on September 8th, which broke the original passing record held by Rusty Smith from 2007.
It’s clear that Lane Kiffin has some major talent in South Florida and with an upcoming visit to No. 16 UCF, the Owls will need to rally and push themselves to continue setting records. All eyes will be on this game as the Knights battle to keep their winning streak alive. They went 13-0 last season and have dominated in their first two games this year, putting up 38 or more points against opponents in both games.
UCF vs. UNC was postponed due to Hurricane Florence so the Knights have had time off to prepare for Friday’s game against the Owls. This match-up is sure to be one for the books, will the Owls come out victorious over a Top 25 team? Join me and FAU fans all over South Florida as we wait for history to be made.
Just living life and loving every moment. Just Jordyn.
