Giants WR Golden Tate suspended 4 games for fertility drug use

Golden Tate’s attempt to convince the NFL to overturn his suspension has been rejected.

NFL officials on Tuesday revealed they plan to enforce Tate’s four-game suspension, which was handed down to the Giants wide receiver after a drug screening revealed he had a performance-enhancing substance in his system.

While Tate doesn’t deny taking a drug to enhance his performance, he says it was meant to give him a boost in the bedroom, not on the football field.

“This past April, during the off-season, my wife and I decided to see a specialist for fertility planning,” Tate says. “I started the treatment prescribed to me and just days later I discovered it contained an ingredient that is on the league’s banned substance list. I immediately discontinued use.”

If true, doesn’t this feel like another example of how flawed the NFL’s substance abuse policy it is? This seems like another thing that the NFL needs to fix.
