While looking at the standings this morning in Major League Baseball, it hit me, holy bleep there’s a lot of bad teams! Why are there so many bad teams? Are teams tanking?
Just in case you have not realized it for yourself, I will tell you just how bad it currently is.
Let’s do some simple math first. There are 30 teams in the league, half of 30 is 15. So, what if I told you that 14 teams are at or below.500 on the season so far? Would that surprise you? Well, it’s true. Almost half of the league is terrible. HALF!
And to make matters worse, the Mets and Blue Jays are 1 game above .500 at the moment, so that means that they are each one bad game away from tipping the scales to more than half the league being mired in complete mediocrity.
By the end of the season, you could conceivably have a team win their division or a wild card with 80 something wins. Or worse yet, with a losing record. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the AL Central where the Indians are in first place with a record of 21-21.
What does this say about the state of baseball? Why are there so many bad teams? I’m not sure if there is one good answer, but it is a fact that is absolutely staggering.
