Spencer Gallagher picks up his 1st Xfinity Series win at Talladega

“I hope to hell this works!”

That’s what went through Spencer Gallagher’s mind as he took the lead in overtime at Talladega Superspeedway.

Gallagher went on to win Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300, leading only one lap, the first lap he’s ever led in his NASCAR Xfinity Series Career. It was also the first win for his team GMS Racing, a family organization owned by Spencer’s father. Gallagher was able to capitalize on a late restart after numerous cars ran out of gas pushing the race into overtime. He passed Tyler Reddick moments after taking the white flag, holding off a hard charging Brandon Jones at the line.

Elliott Sadler, who suffered a speeding penalty avoiding a spinning John Hunter Nemecheck, was able to go from 20th to 5th on the final restart securing the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus for the second week in a row. Sadler now leads the series points by 40 over Tyler Reddick.
