Sunday’s 2-0 win over the Netherlands at the Women’s World Cup didn’t just mark a back-to-back victory for the Americans, it could start a revolution.
Video taken from inside France’s Stade de Lyon show the crowd chanting “equal pay,” a reference to the wage gap between the men’s and women’s national teams.
According to CNBC, both teams bring in around the same revenue. But The Guardian says the women will earn about $260,000 each while, if they were to win the World Cup, each male player nets about $1 million.
Social media, along with several US lawmakers, also jumped on the call for equality.
Why do you think the women’s team earns less? Do you think it’s long overdue for this to happen?
